Mildred I. Perez serves as the Chief of People and Culture at Lambda Legal, our nations oldest and largest legal organization whose mission is to achieve full recognition of the civil rights of our LGBTQ community and everyone living with HIV. Before joining Lambda Legal, she had started her Human Resources career as an Administrative Assistant in a nonprofit that had approximately 50 employees. She continued to gain increased responsibilities as well as work for increasingly larger and more complex organizations. Mildred worked in several industries: nonprofit, manufacturing, real estate, wholesale and higher education. Having worked her way up, Mildred is in the advantageous position of knowing what it takes to get results and to be able to bring people along in the process. Mildred’s area of expertise are benefits, coaching/counseling, employee relations, HR best practices and compliance, HRIS and time management implementation and maintenance, investigations, leave management, policy & procedure development, staff management, training and risk management. In addition to her full-time position in Human Resources, Mildred has been a lecturer and guest speaker at different colleges as well as volunteers to help students and alumni prepare their resumes and prepare for interviews. Mildred is service-oriented and knows that her clients are both the employees and the organization. She treats each person as an individual, finding out what is important to them and then working collaboratively to meet their needs. She is known as a peacemaker due to her genuine concern for others and her courage to have the difficult conversations most try to avoid. She acknowledges differences and helps others understand and respect different points of view and different life experiences. Mildred has been certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources from 2007-2020 and is currently in the process of recertification.
